- Its brightest star is Alpha Cephei with an apparent magnitude of 3.5.
- This group contains about 16 stars, including Alpha Librae, Alpha Cephei, space velocities.
- The pole is about halfway between Deneb and Alpha Cephei, less than 10?from the former, a bit more than the apparent distance between Sadr and Deneb.
- In asterism consisting of Xi Cephei, 4 Cephei, HD 194298, Eta Cephei, Theta Cephei, Alpha Cephei, 26 Cephei, Iota Cephei and Omicron Cephei.
- Alpha Cephei is also known to emit an amount of X radiation similar to the Sun, which along with other indicators suggests the existence of considerable magnetic activity & mdash; something unexpected ( though not at all unusual ) for a fast rotator.
- In about 5, 500 years, the pole will have moved near the position of the star Alderamin ( Alpha Cephei ), and in 12, 000 years, Vega ( Alpha Lyrae ) will become our north star, but it will be about six degrees from the true north celestial pole.
